SC Picture Project / Abbeville County / Abbeville Presbyterian Church

Abbeville Presbyterian Church’s congregation was organized in 1853, and this building was constructed in 1888. Its construction was overseen by a prominent businessman named L.W. White, who owned a general store on the square and would later sell Model Ts.

Reflections on Abbeville Presbyterian Church

Many thanks to Mark Clark, an Abbeville native who currently resides in Winnsboro, for submitting the photo above. Mark reflects, “I attended kindergarten at this church as a young boy. Looking at this picture brings back memories of playing on the swing set in the church’s backyard and playing in the playhouse that was back there as well. Much to our teacher’s chagrin, we used to love to stamp on the soft dirt floor of the playhouse to create a dusty ‘fire’ that we would of course put out.”
