Little is currently known about Ridge Church, and we are eager to learn more about its history. Located in the Lowndesville area of Abbeville County, this well-maintained wooden church is marked by a small sign bearing the motto, “Where Friends Meet.” The sign identifies the congregation as Ridge Church and notes an establishment date of 1839.
Despite searching a variety of sources, we have been unable to uncover substantial information about the church’s origins, congregation, or role in the community. Local first responders, however, are familiar with the property due to incidents of vandalism reportedly linked to unfounded claims that the church is haunted.
We believe this historic church has an important story to tell and hope to learn more about its past.
