April 15th, 2014, was the highly anticipated move-in date for the new Aiken County Government Center. The county broke ground for the complex, built on 20 acres, on August 19, 2012. A year and a half later, people visiting the completed complex were able to access the offices of voter registration, the tax assessor, Register of Mesne Conveyance, and county council, among many others.
A time capsule was included in the construction of the building, which is slated to be opened on March 10, 2071 – the 200th anniversary of the county. Items included in the time capsule are photos and maps from each county department. The county operated from its former building on Richland Street for over 40 years.
