Denmark First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church of Denmark, located in Bamberg County, was established in 1844. In the early 1890s, its pastor was Reverend Henry Simms Hartzog, who went on to become the youngest president of Clemson University between 1897 and 1902.

Reflections on First Baptist Church of Denmark

Andy Hunter expands on one of his photos, taken during a snowstorm in February of 2010: “Snow is rare in Denmark, so I stayed up late to take this picture because I knew the snow wouldn’t last.”

Andy, we met yesterday at Veterans Victory House in Walterboro. I have not been able to locate you on Facebook. Could you either send me an email or contact me on Facebook so that I can see your photos? They are awesome. Your First Baptist Church is beautiful.

Andy, my sisters & I really enjoyed Phil’s service! It gave us such a peaceful feeling. We also loved spending time with you and our cousins. I have tried to find you on Facebook, without success. Please friend me – Pam Smith Cool, Lawrenceville, Ga. I cannot wait to show some of my friends at work the Gamecock picture!
