SC Picture Project / Barnwell County / First Baptist Church

General Sherman burned much of Blackville at the end of the Civil War, but the congregation of First Baptist Church, founded in 1846, continued to thrive. The church remains strong to this day and offers weekly services. It is a member of the Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association, a partnership of 38 Southern Baptist churches in or near Barnwell County.

Contributor Andy Hunter shares his experience capturing the above image: “I was attending the 157th Annual Meeting of the Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association at the First Baptist Church of Blackville, S.C. As I was leaving, I took this picture of the church.”

I am searching for info about Reverend William Rutherford. We are doing Ancestry for my husband’s family and all I have is this name. If you are able to help or not, I thank you.

Hello, we can try to assist. Is there a connection with this ancestor to First Baptist Church?

I was married at this church on June 13, 1954 by Rev. William Rutherford. I am trying to locate Rev. Rutherford (if he is still alive). Do you have any info you would share. Thank you so much.
