A.O. Atkinson House — McClellanville, South Carolina
SC Picture Project | Charleston County | A.O. Atkinson House
We are eager to learn more about this old home. According to Bud Hill, who is the director of the McClellanville Museum, his great-great-grandfather, Dr. William Thomas Wilkins Baker, left the Santee River and settled on this lot as the village of McClellanville was forming in the 1850s.
The house that Baker built stood further back on the lot than the current house. Baker’s house burned in 1912, and the lot was sold to Samuel Lofton. In 1918 Lofton sold the vacant lot to A. O. Atkinson.
The SC Picture Project thanks our friend Bud Hill for his invaluable information. We are actively seeking additional information to add to this entry. If you can help, please add information below. Thank you!
