Orca Photos — James Island, South Carolina
SC Picture Project | Charleston County | Orca Photos

Orca is 32 feet long and in good shape, but in a strong hurricane the wind and waves toss her around like a cork. The best way we’ve found to protect her is to use several lines to keep her in the middle of a small tidal creek that ends just to the east of our house on James Island. James Island is a large sea island that borders the south side of Charleston harbor. It’s where the Civil War began.
A 32-foot boat may seem large, but even in this protected creek Orca looks small compared with her surroundings. On a large sound she seems minuscule.
