SC Picture Project / Chester County / Chester Transportation Museum

A former railroad depot in Chester houses the Chester Transportation Museum. The depot was constructed in 1888 and served as a stop along the Seaboard Airline Railroad. The Seaboard Line connected the South Carolina Piedmont with the freight industry.

Prior to the 1850s, the upper part of South Carolina was exempt from the prosperity the rest the state enjoyed. Once freight lines were established there, the upstate’s textile industry flourished.

The Chester Transportation Museum features a railroad track that is still in use. It also displays early automobiles – including a 1916 Ford Model T – antique bicycles, buggies, and more. The museum is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays.

As Mr. Walker, below, said…what are your hours on Saturdays? We will just be this week end in Chester and enjoy transportation museums. Thank you.
