This brick structure – located on Dearborn Street in Great Falls – is known as the War Memorial Building. The Chester County War Memorial Commission was created on May 7, 1945 for the purpose of constructing a community center to act as a living memorial to the men and women from Chester County who served in the United States military (1).
The American Legion of Chester raised $50,000 of the proposed $65,000 in construction costs. In return, the second level of the building was reserved for the legion’s meetings (1). The first floor served as the Chester County Library (1). Today the building serves as a popular event venue for weddings, community events, birthdays, and more.
