SC Picture Project / Dorchester County / Cowtail Creek

Seen below is Cowtail Creek, a tributary of the Polk Swamp in St. George. The rural area surrounding Polk Swamp, which flows into the Edisto River, consists primarily of row crops. Presently, the United States Army Corps of Engineers is conducting a study of Polk Swamp in order to plan a restoration of its ecosystem. Efforts will include eliminating invasive plants and promoting native flora and fauna within the swamp. Cowtail Creek is a small but well-liked fishing spot.
