Cummings Chapel

SC PICTURE PROJECT 1 Comment

SC Picture Project / Dorchester County / Cummings Chapel

This charming church in Ridgeville was founded in 1875 on two acres of land given by John N. Cummings.

Early members, who included the Cummings, Green, Clayton, and Muckenfuss families, met beneath a brush arbor prior to the construction of the chapel soon after the church’s establishment. Over the decades the church has experienced periods of activity and dormancy. Janie Riggs Felder donated more land to the congregation in recent years to expand the churchyard.
