Dorchester County was formed in 1897 from land parceled by Colleton and Berkeley Counties. This courthouse sits in the county seat of St. George, and though built in 1964, is now referred to as the “old” courthouse. The new courthouse was dedicated in 2011, and the former courthouse building is currently used as the Dorchester County Archives and History Center.
