SC Picture Project / Edgefield County / Village Blacksmith

This simple brick building in Edgefield is part of the Edgefield County Historical Society’s living museum of artisans, which also includes a nearby master carpenter and potter. The living museum is also supported by the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.

Every Tuesday through Saturday visitors can watch a blacksmith forge iron into practical accessories such as hardware as well as decorative artwork. The blacksmith even accepts requests for special, one-of-a-kind pieces of folk art shaped in the way of the masters centuries before.
