Bradford pear trees line an inviting path in beautiful Travelers Rest. The Greenville County town with the charming name has long been a stop along the way for travelers heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains. The peaks of North Carolina sit just beyond the site where Mr. and Mrs. William Bishop once hosted weary sojourners at their inn. There were several such inns and taverns along what is now United States Highway 25, where travelers could stop for a brief respite before continuing their journeys. The hospitality of the area lent Travelers Rest its memorable name.
Long ago the area was inhabited by several Native American tribes, including Cherokee, Catawba, and Creek. Once whites settled here, soon after the Revolutionary War, a small town developed. Travelers Rest finally incorporated in 1891 for thirty years. After its charter expired, the town remained an unincorporated community until residents applied for and received a second charter in 1959. Today the town continues to invite visitors to enjoy breathtaking vistas of its majestic foothills.
Hello,
I saw the picture you have listed under Traveler’s Rest with the pear trees. I was wondering where exactly this is located? I am local photographer and would love to find this spot. Thanks!
