Wheeland School

SC PICTURE PROJECT 2 Comments

SC Picture Project / Newberry County / Wheeland School

This structure, located in Little Mountain, was built around 1880 as Wheeland Church. Traditionally many churches, particularly in rural areas, sponsored schools. These classes were generally held on nearby property and named for the church; sometimes they were held within the church itself. The Wheeland School operated in its namesake church, and today the structure houses the Wheeland Community Center.
