Elloree, which derives its name from an Indian word that means “the home that I love,” boasts a revitalized downtown area and a friendly atmosphere. There is the Elloree Heritage Museum, which is not to be missed, as well as Amporns Thai Cuisine, a fine restaurant right in the main part of town.

Soon after becoming incorporated in 1886, Elloree became a railroad hub for farming commerce in Orangeburg County. The above photo is an old steam engine pulley for a local lumber company, a reminder of the community’s history in both the agricultural and transportation industries.

My Dad was born in Elloree. My Uncle Jack Irick ran a general store there. I’m looking to find a picture of his store. It was also a gas station. I am an artist and would like to do a pen and ink drawing for our family. Many nice memories, but no photos!
