UFO Welcome Center

SC PICTURE PROJECT 2 Comments

SC Picture Project / Orangeburg County / UFO Welcome Center

Have you ever felt lost when traveling off the beaten path? Would a familiar sight, even if in an unfamiliar place, make you feel welcomed … even expected? Jody Pendarvis of Bowman believes that weary travelers – earthly or celestial – are more likely to relax and feel at home when properly hosted. Not only does he encourage his neighbors to visit his address, but tourists, road trippers, and space travelers are all invited as well.

Pendarvis built his 46-foot-wide UFO Welcome Center in 1994 in hopes of attracting otherworldly guests. It remains a popular backroads attraction for believers, doubters, and the curious. Though no interplanetary explorers have yet to make an appearance, the UFO Welcome Center has been featured in many travel guides.
