The purpose of the South Carolina Picture Project is to celebrate the beauty of the Palmetto State while preserving some of its vanishing landscapes.
Belton is located in Anderson County on US 178 east of the City of Anderson.
A thriving textile town in the mid-1900s, Belton started out as a railroad town when the Greenville to Columbia Railroad connected South Carolina’s Piedmont Region to the existing rail system from Columbia to Charleston in the mid 1800s. The town took its name from the first president of the railroad company, John Belton O’Neal.
