Cordesville is an unincorporated community in rural Berkeley County. Located between Moncks Corner and Huger, this community dates back to Revolutionary times where it was a summer village for wealthy planters to escape the unfavorable conditions of plantations during the summer moths. Living in these villages like Summerville, Pineville, Cordesville and more was thought to increase your health by being amongst pines and less boggy conditions that the rice fields offered on plantations. The threat of malaria and other diseases caused by mosquitos was thought to have been reduced dramatically by relocating temporarily. The remaining portions of the village burned down in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
