The purpose of the South Carolina Picture Project is to celebrate the beauty of the Palmetto State while preserving some of its vanishing landscapes.
Hardeeville is located in Jasper County at the junction of I-95 and US 321.
The town took its name from one of its first residents, Isaac Hardee, who moved from North Carolina around 1800. Located on fertile land close to the Savannah River and the ocean, the community was comprised of several rice plantations.
By the 1830s, timber became an important crop when the railroad expanded commercial and shipping opportunities. Longleaf pines are still cultivated here today.
Ridgeland is the largest city near Hardeeville.
