The purpose of the South Carolina Picture Project is to celebrate the beauty of the Palmetto State while preserving some of its vanishing landscapes.
Driving through South Carolina’s back roads may get motorists off the interstate for a less-rushed, more pleasurable drive, but these routes also offer something that the main roads usually don’t have. Unexpected delights such as a spaceship and a larger-than-life legume await just around the bend as motorists cruise through Bowman or roll through Pelion. Of course, in this state, sometimes even the interstate offers a surprise, such as a famous water tower in the shape of the state fruit. Many of these unusual treasures are quite artistic and beautiful, and all are captivating. These roadside oddities and attractions make traveling through South Carolina more fun than the alphabet game.
