The purpose of the South Carolina Picture Project is to celebrate the beauty of the Palmetto State while preserving some of its vanishing landscapes.
The Edgefield County town of Trenton was established with the arrival of the Charlotte, Columbia, and Augusta Railroad in the late 1860s. The area had long been a stagecoach way-station with the Piney Woods tavern offering beds and meals for travelers. George Washington is known to have dined here in 1791 while traveling between Augusta and Columbia.
