Wedgefield is an unincorporated community in the “High Hills of Santee” of Sumter County. Named for a wedge shaped area within the hilly terrain, Wedgefield was home to many plantations during the 18th and 19th centuries. After the decline of plantations following the Civil War, Wedgefield experienced economic developments with the development of the railroad.
