Henry Lafitte House

SC PICTURE PROJECT 1 Comment

SC Picture Project / Allendale County / Henry Lafitte House

Located on Burton’s Ferry Highway in downtown Allendale, the Henry Lafitte House is built in the Queen Anne Style with wood-lap siding.

We know very little about the home other than it was once a cotton plantation and is also known as the James Phinney House, built in 1856. We are actively seeking additional information to add to this entry. If you can help, please add information below. Thank you!

Cedarleaf Farm is in Chester SC. This house is in Allendale SC. It was built circa 1898 by James Lawton Oswald. A friend of his, an architect from Augusta, GA designed the house. His widow, upon his death, made a boarding home for young teachers moving to the area. The house was affectionately called Aunt Bessie’s house. Henry Laffitte purchased the property in the 1970s and restored it.
