The South Carolina Picture Project is a labor of love. It takes a lot of time and a good bit of money to create, host, and maintain the South Carolina Picture Project. Our purpose is to preserve South Carolina’s history by documenting important landmarks and landscapes across our state before they are lost to time.
The South Carolina Picture Project is an important resource for in-state and out-of-state tourists, historians, genealogists, teachers, students, and all who love the Palmetto State. So far it consists of over 2,350 entries and over 10,000 photos and paintings. These images are contributed by talented professional and amateur artists, primarily from South Carolina but also from around the globe.
Some of our costs include: Website and email hosting, online file storage, computer hardware, software, internet access, travel costs, and research materials like books and journals. The largest cost of course is simply time, as each new entry takes at least an hour to make, and sometimes even a day or more. There is so much unseen work involved in our day-to-day functions – from reaching out to photographers and property owners, to answering comments, to editing and optimizing images, to building and encouraging our Facebook group, which has now grown to over 43,000 members!
The South Carolina Picture Project is a registered nonprofit in the State of South Carolina and a federally-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which allows your donations to be tax deductible.
We thank you – tremendously – for any help you can offer!
