Downtown Florence is undergoing an exciting redevelopment, which is attracting new shops, restaurants, and neighborhoods to the area. Some of the city’s success stories include the restoration of the Hotel Florence, the establishment of the James Allen Plaza, and the addition of the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center, just to name a few.
Current projects include the construction of a performing arts center, the replication of the historic Cumberland United Methodist Church, and the new Coit Village residential development.
All of these projects are part of a large effort to make downtown Florence the social, economic, and cultural hub of the city.
Reflections on Downtown Florence
Holly Young Beaumier of the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau says, “Downtown Florence is undergoing an exciting redevelopment which is attracting new shops, restaurants, and neighborhoods to the area. Recent projects include the Florence County Museum, Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center, renovation of City Center to house the city offices, a boutique hotel with fine dining restaurant, the Waters Building renovation, the James Allen Plaza, William H. Johnson Renaissance Courtyard, Restaurant Row, and Florence Little Theatre. Current projects are construction of Francis Marion University Medical and Health Sciences Complex, construction of the HopeHealth facility, an expansion of the boutique hotel with retail space, and renovation of buildings for retail, dining, and a distillery.”
Photographer Robert Davis writes: “On the left, just in view, is the Florence Art-Trails Gallery. Within the gallery is the studio of award-winning sculptor Alex Palkovich.”
Stayed at the Hotel Florence and had dinner in Victors…wow! Great experience all around!
