The Strand Theater in historic Georgetown dates to 1941, when it opened as a cinema. After a period of vacancy during the 1970s, it was purchased in 1982 by the Swamp Fox Players, a local performance troupe which continues to host plays there today.

Went to The Strand many times in the early to mid seventies. It was one of only two theaters in Georgetown at the time. (The other, known as The Hub, was a newly built cinema in a shopping center.) The Strand featured all the major Disney releases as well as many other blockbusters of the day. My most vivid memory is watching The Poseidon Adventure in a packed house upon its release in late 1972.
