St. John’s United Methodist Church

SC PICTURE PROJECT 3 Comments

SC Picture Project / Orangeburg County / St. John’s United Methodist Church

The small community of Woodford was founded in 1891, and St. John’s Methodist Episcopal Church was built the following year. St. John’s, now a part of the United Methodist Church, was remodeled in 1933 with money raised from 10 acres of cotton planted, harvested, and sold by its members. St. John’s still serves parishioners in rural Orangeburg County.

I was married in this church, my Mom played the piano in this church, my Dad was a Lay Leader, and I had my son’s and parents funeral services at this church. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Anne! Thank you so much for posting! We would absolutely love to be able to add more info and history to our entry for St. John’s. As you can see, we don’t know much yet. Is there anything more you can tell us? If you are interested, here is a form with some of the questions we are hoping to find answers to. Thank you again!

Great photo Andy, you’ve given me somewhere else to go. Your photo makes this one certainly worthy of finding.
