Dargan’s Pond

SC PICTURE PROJECT Leave a Comment

SC Picture Project / Darlington County / Dargan’s Pond

Dargan’s Pond in Darlington is much more than a pond – measuring 150 acres, the lake is one of the most popular fishing spots in the Pee Dee region. Stocked with bluegill, shellcracker, and other fisherman favorites by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the lake provides a fishing pier, boat ramp, and picnic tables. Only boats with electric trolling motors are allowed on Dargan’s Pond. The lake is part of a larger system of outdoor features used for education and research known as Clemson University‘s Pee Dee Research and Education Center. The center straddles both Florence and Darlington counties.

The Outdoor Education Trail is a nature trail winding through the woods surrounding Dargan’s Pond. While the research center is open to the public and welcomes individuals and groups, scheduling a visit to the center is required. However, Dargan’s Pond is open to the public with no advance notice necessary on Wednesdays and Saturdays from March through September.
