Gregg in His Own Words
“I got my first 35mm camera, a Canon AE-1, in ninth grade. I immediately became fascinated with capturing sunset pictures, and because the ocean was nearby, I also became intrigued with capturing sunrise pictures over the ocean. I’m still amazed that as a high school student, I would get to the beach before sunrise just to try to capture a sunrise. And I still laugh about the “old days” where I would drop my roll of film off at K-Mart in Georgetown, wait two days, not like any of the shots, and have to go do it again.”

“As mentioned above, I’m a big bluegrass music fan, and I’ve been focusing on live concert photography. Right now, I’m basically doing it as a “fan” just like the rest of the audience. I’m focusing on improving my craft and establishing a portfolio so I can eventually get some work as an official event or concert photographer. My eventual goal is to get pictures in the bluegrass trade press and magazines.”
“Despite a lifelong interest and passion, I’m still very much an amateur. I’m thankful for opportunities like the SC Picture Project where I can share my work with others. Sharing my work publicly forces me to work a little harder and to be a little more critical of my photography.”

More about Gregg
HOMETOWN: I was born in Georgetown and lived there until I attended Clemson University in 1983. After graduation, I lived in Birmingham, Alabama for four years. After Birmingham, I was able to move “back home” and have been living in Myrtle Beach since 1991.
FAMILY: Happily married for 28 years with two children. My son is attending Clemson University. My daughter is a senior in high school and will be attending Clemson as well. At this point, it would probably be appropriate to mention that my wife also graduated from Clemson!
WORK & HOBBIES: I am a professional engineer and manage the Distribution Design department at Santee Cooper. Between family, work, and hobbies, I never have trouble finding something to do. My hobbies include weightlifting, bluegrass music, banjo picking, road cycling, mountain biking, the beach, and of course photography.

FAVORITE PLACES: I certainly enjoy the upstate from my time in and around Clemson. But growing up and living most of my life near the ocean, my favorite place is still The Beach.
