The purpose of the South Carolina Picture Project is to celebrate the beauty of the Palmetto State while preserving some of its vanishing landscapes.
Mount Carmel is located in the northern portion of McCormick County. It grew into a thriving railroad town in the late 1880s.
Today, many homes, churches, and commercial properties built between 1885 and 1920 remain in the center of town adjacent to the railroad tracks and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
