SC Picture Project / McCormick County / McAllister and Sons

McAllister and Sons in historic Mount Carmel is the longest-running business in McCormick County. As the area grew during the nineteenth century, a post office was established in 1854. After the Savannah Valley Railroad laid tracks here in 1884, more commercial enterprises developed, such as the McAllister and Sons store in 1888.

The business sells furniture, appliances, and even farm equipment to go along with their Blue Branch Cattle Farm. McAllister and Sons, still operated by the McAllister family, is located in a series of brick buildings dating from 1894 through 1955.
