This rustic scene in Blenheim is reminiscent of the early twentieth century when the local corner store provided households with most of the necessities they couldn’t make or grow themselves. Carabo’s Grocery has been standing since the 1920s. The one-story frame building features a metal roof, a porch supported by brick piers, and double-hung windows. As are most rural stores, Carabo’s Grocery is strategically placed at an intersection to appeal to motorists traveling in multiple directions.
The store was owned at one time by W. Lee Carabo, and in addition to providing groceries, it also served as a garage.
