Rankin’s Grocery Store

SC PICTURE PROJECT 4 Comments

SC Picture Project / Anderson County / Rankin’s Grocery Store

This charming building once housed a store and gas station in the Kingsley Hills community of Anderson. Now adorning a busy road within a modern subdivision, the store was the business of James Lester Rankin, who operated the grocery store and also sold obsolete auto parts from the building during the mid-to-late twentieth century.

Mobil 1 was around that time in the early ’50s and late ’60s.

Does anyone know what brand of gasoline Rankin’s sold before Chevron? Chevron did not market in SC until the mid to late 60s.

Probably, as it is on the side of the road and thus easily accessible.
