SC PICTURE PROJECT 2 Comments

SC Picture Project / Barnwell County / Blackville Depot

The Blackville Train Depot was constructed in the early 1900s and renovated in 2005. It was once situated next to the Charleston Hamburg railroad line, but it was moved to its current location on Solomon Blatt Avenue in 1985, siting directly where the now demolished courthouse on West Main Street once stood. The depot is now home to the Blackville Library.

The small town of Blackville is also home to God’s Acre Healing Springs, a legendary artesian well.

I worked in this building for the railroad two times, and sold train tickets, did bookkeeping, telegraphed, and gave train orders to trains during the 50’s and then in 70’s.
